ONE THING on Why Again?

Sometimes you get roadmap “special request” for just one customer, partner or potential sale. If the request would adjust the roadmap, try asking there questions:

Subscribe to my weekly Nano-letter:

  1. What problem is this request trying to solve? There may be a better (or easier) solution if you understand the problem.

  1. Does solving that need align with our overall objectives? If the whole organization is focused on entering a new market, why would you slow progress on that effort by building features for a market that’s tapped out?

  2. Is it more important than what’s on the roadmap now? This question focuses the discussion on trade-offs.

I explore these topics in Chapter 10 of my book, Product Roadmaps Relaunched. What other questions are useful?
