For Halloween, here’s a frighting topic: quitting. Humans don’t like to quit. Our brains are wired for loss aversion and focus on sunk costs, among other things. How to make a smart, rational decision?

One way is by writing a quitting document that spells out what must happen or not happen at your current job by a certain date. Have a friend comment on your document and hold you to it. If that date arrives and your criteria have not been met, you may not quit immediately, but you will begin looking for a new gig.
