When decisions are made slowly (or not at all), when they seem to change from week to week, it’s often because it’s simply unclear who makes these decisions and how. The DACI (Driver, Approver, Contributors, Informed) framework can help by designating clear decision roles.
Subscribe to my weekly Nano-letter:
Sit down with key people in your organization and agree on who takes which of these roles for what types of decisions:
Driver: Makes the decisions, and then runs around getting alignment. Ex: a PM.
Approver: Sets decision criteria, approves or rejects decisions. Ex: a VP.
Contributors: Adds valuable information to enhance the decision. Ex: a customer care rep.
Informed: Updated about decisions. Ex: an account rep who learns of a new plan.
We go into DACI in greater detail in Chapter 1, Organization, in Aligned: Stakeholder Management for Product Leaders.
Grateful
Thursday is the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA. I want to thank all the people who welcomed Melissa Appel and me with Aligned: Stakeholder Management for Product Leaders to meetups, conferences and podcasts all over the world. I am tremendously grateful to you. For those in the USA, I hope we can come together, listen to each other with genuine curiosity and give thanks. Eat well.
