A few weeks ago, I ran a contest on Product Vision MadLibs. The idea was to create your vision statement using this MadLibs template:
We help [type of customer] [achieve a benefit] by [what we do best].
The winner (drum roll, please...) is Debbie Kite, Product Lead at WeatherAsset. Here is her tight vision statement:
We help suppliers of fresh produce reduce their exposure to weather risk by handling and tailoring large amount of weather data for them.
She made a clear case for her product by:
Identifying the customer clearly — "suppliers of fresh produce"
Focusing on the benefit to them — "reduce exposure to weather risk"
And explaining how they differentiate from the obvious competitor (free weather apps) — "by tailoring large amounts of weather data for them"
Going into details about reports and alerts would only have reduced the clarity of this statement and removed options for her team to branch out into new ways of reducing risk. Debbie wins a copy of Product Roadmaps Relaunched, plus a Zoom coffee or beer to chat about product. Claim your prize!
What's your MadLibs? Discuss.
